san francisco where bart police are answering questions about an officer-involved shooting that happened last night at civic center plaza. >> also this morning, at least three people are dead, three others won had following four separate shootings in richmond. police are trying to determine if they are zbleltd investigators say illegal fireworks may have been the cause of a fire that ripped through a hertz rental car lot destroying dozens of cars. >> here is a live look at coit tower this morning. we have nicer weather. it's going to drop about 2-7 degrees but more heat on the way for tomorrow, and it finally cools for the weekend. >> things still looking good at the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic is light if you are headed into the city. >> happy independence day. thank you so much for joining us. i'm kristen sze.

. >> i'm eric thomas. bart plans to reopen the civic station in less than two hours. last night bart police shot and killed a man. amy hollyfield is live in civic center bart with more on the investigation. >> bart police tell us they found a couple of knives and broken glass from a bottle. they got the call from 9:30 about a man who appeared to be drunk on the platform of the civic center station he was brandishing a knife. he even fell down on the platform. the next call dispatch received is that shots had been fired. they don't know exactly what happened. investigators say there is evidence there was a confrontation. >> one of the officers involved got shards of glass in his arm and we recovered two knives. we believe two or three credible witnesses that are also being

interviewed. >> police say they don't know much about the man who was killed just that he is a white male, somewhere between 30 and 50 years old. they don't know where he is from. san francisco police are investigating this along with the bart police department. the civic center station is scheduled to reopen at 8:00 this morning along with all the other stations. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, the "abc 7 news." >> it was a violent night in richmond where police in contra costa sheriff's deputies are investigating four separate shootings that left four people dead and two others injured. it started around eight third last night when a man was shot on ohio street. he is expected to survive. then shortly before 11:00, two people were shot on west ruby on second street. both of them were killed. 15 minutes later a person was

discovered with a fatal gunshot wound in a car. they described the victim as a 19-year-old man, ten minutes after that, two people were shot on first street and macdonald avenue. a 27-year-old man was killed and a second man suffered non life-threatening injuries. >> crews removed a plane on 280 after was forced to make an emergency landing. it happened just north of farm hill boulevard. it came in below power lines and clipped the back of a mercedes. the pilot had taken off from the san carlos airport on a test flight and developed fuel problems. he was able to radio back to the airport just before landing on the right hand shoulder of the freeway. >> when i see the plane....

>> neither the pilot nor the driver of the mercedes were injured. >> a sea plane that sank off the coast of sausalito has been pulled out of bay now. witnesses captured video as the sea plane tried to take off but slipped nose first into the water. a passing boater went and rescued the pilot and passenger. >> i saw the plane nose into the water and two guys climb on to the wings. we turned around went right to them and asked them if they needed a lift. they said, as a matter of fact we do. >> it took dive teams more than a day to locate the sunken plane under water. they are discussing with the faa if whether the pilot violated any rules. >> one tourist died after

fishing boat capsized off of baja peninsula. several people are still missing this morning. 100 foot fishing boat was reportedly carrying 44 people. it capsized early sunday but no one knew until a fishing boat happened by. investigators say fireworks might have been a cause that ripped through hertz rental car lot. here a cellphone video of the roaring blaze that consumed as many as 37 cars. they use the dirt lot to store extra cars about three miles north of airport. they say they thought they heard fireworks and the manager found a firecracker at the scene. some bay area communities are getting an early jump on 4th of july festivity. an impressive fireworks show last night at shoreline amply

>> back here is hot weather is not your cup of tea, just a few hours from skiing and snowboarding in the sierra. first time in two decades they are hitting the slopes on the 4th of july weekend. squaw valley is one of tahoe few resorts. they are taking advantage of the lingering snow and high pressure system that is bringing warm air to the sierra. alpine meadows and kirkwood is also open. there are several runs at each mountain. >> coming down in shorts coming down the mountain. >> for you, perhaps. >> we better move on. >> it's still a little bit cold. >> the sun off the ice.

>> what sun. >> it wouldn't be bad if it was a hundred tomorrow. we'll drop into snow, that would be fun. you would probably melt into the snow. look back to emeryville, kind of hard to see the golden gate bridge but that is not the marine layer fog and low clouds. that is non-existent right now. another reason it will be pretty warm away from the coast. take a look at the temperatures. we have antioch is the lone holdout in the 70s. 71 for you. rest in the 50s and 60s. still 45 degrees at half moon bay. mid-50s and few low 50s around monterey bay and inland. hottest weather awaits us tomorrow afternoon and it looks like we'll finally see some cooler weather as we jump in the weekend which the computer, i got a minute and a half to talk about.

let's back things up here and we'll jump into the microclimates. upper 80s to low 90s. 91 in palo alto but down to 83 in millbrae. mid to upper 60s around the coast. we start at 80 in sausalito but warm to 92 as you head into santa rosa. all the way up to 89 in fremont. 93 in dublin and 98.in brentwood. so kind of highlighted the highs and lows. two games, 1:00, 77 jumping up to 80 at coliseum to take on the mariners. then an hour later, over at at&t we're going to see the padres and giants. sunny and breezy, up to 73 degrees. both areas big time sunburn factor. it will be clear and comfortable

police. that is where amy hollyfield joins us with the latest. bart police you can count on the fact there will be a thorough investigation into what happened. san francisco police department is also conducting its own investigation. this happened at about 9:30 last night at civic center plaza station. bart police got a call about a drunk man that was brandishing a knife. he even fell down on the platform. within minutes of police arriving on the scene, they shot him to death. bart police deputy chief he realizes they don't trust bart police ever since the shooting of oscar grant. but they are out this morning giving interviews about what happened. >> that is why we respond waiter we do now. we're going to stand before the media and the public. we're going to report what we know as the investigation moves forward. you'll hear from our chief of police later this morning from

lake merritt, bart police headquarters. we're working hand in hand with san francisco d.a.'s office. our detectives are talking with their detectives and we'll find out what happened. we've got new policies and procedures in place. they will be followed as they are written. if they are not we'll make adjustments. >> reporter: bart investigators said they found knives and broken glass and bottle at the scene. one of the officers suffered cuts, he had glass as hard as in his arm. it the police chief says there was a possibility of a confrontation. they don't know much about the man that was killed. he was between 30 and 50, he is a white male and they don't know where he is from. the station is scheduled to open along 8:00 along with the other stations. they don't think service will be interrupted.

amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." it's been a violent night where authorities are investigating in richmond that led to four people dead and two others injured. they had started around 8:30 last night when a man was shot on ohio street near south 39th straight. she is expected to survive. shortly before 11:00, two people were shot on west ruby near second street in north richmond. both of them were killed. 15 minutes later, a person was found with a fatal gunshot wound near 31st street. they describe the victim as a 19-year-old man. then ten minutes after that, around 11:15, two people were shot on first street and macdonald avenue. a 27-year-old man was killed and second man suffered non life-threatening injuries. >> crews removed a small plane from interstate 280 after it was forced to make an emergency

landing right in the middle of traffic. it happened shortly after 7:00 last night north of farm hill boulevard. the single-engine cessna came in below power lines and clipped the back of a mercedes. chp says the pilot took off on a test flight. he was able to radio a mayday just before landing on the shoulder of the freeway. neither were injured. investigators say illegal fireworks might be the cause of a fire that ripped through a hertz rental car lot yesterday. this is cellphone video of the fire that consumed as many as 37 cars. hurtz uses the lot to store extra cars three miles north of airport. guests the value inn next door describe the scene. >> i saw smoke and flames coming up that high. i thought we were on fire. i told my family to get out.

sizzling. high temperatures have reminded everyone to take extra precautions. cecilia vega reports. >> reporter: there really isn't a way to beat pleasanton's triple-digit it heat. you just learn to cope with it. that means hiding whatever shade i can find or create and stay well hydrated. >> we're going to jump in the pool. >> reporter: as temperatures sizzled, so did grills around the bay area in spite of the warning. the scorching weather forced bay area quality monitors to declare eight spare-the-air day. barbecuing was not technically illegal it was definitely not adviced. >> people can barbecue but we strongly to encourage them to use gas grills but they pollute a lot. if they have to use charcoal grill, don't use lighter fluid.

now. >> the invention combines an invisible laser beam with a thin film. one layer turns red, one turns green and one turns blue. each layer made particles of so tiny that the light passes in between them. it will replace a future dashboard and a gps map. this is being drawn by a laser beam but the color are not the color of the laser beam. the glow you see is the nano material foster responding to the laser light. it can be put on any clear material, even material that is not clear. it's completely absorbed by the material so the laser beam doesn't pass through. it could be built right into an automobile windshield. >> general motors is testing in it in show cars. disney is testing in it theme parks. it layers holographic material for a non-laser projector.

tomorrow is probably going to be the hottest day in the forecast. east bay shore, 81 in richmond, all the way up to 89 in fremont. spread not as big in the south bay, 89 in sunnyvale to 94 in los gatos. on the peninsula 91 in palo alto. 83 in millbrae. then you have mid to upper 60s along the coast. sunset will be 68 and mainly sunny today. mid-80s in san rafael and vallejo. at your beaches, mid to upper 60s. 70 in monterey to 80 in santa cruz and 97 in gilroy. both teams are in town but they are playing fairly different times, 1:00, mariners and a a's, 77 and 80. not quite as warm for the giants game. it will be sunny and breezy, 70 degrees warming up to 73. 2:05 first pitch.
